In the focus of the Istrian Centre of Intangible Culture is communication and cooperation with members of the local communities. Procedures for safeguarding intangible culture are developed with their help and an important move towards this direction is the creation of new collections of documents and the development of several databases of digitalized material (audio, video, photographical and multimedia archives) as well as a library and an archive of printed documents. With this database the Centre wishes to create and enforce a respectable info point, a reference place for any better learning and comparative observation and studying of Istrian intangible phenomena. As of now, we are at a good point in our endeavours and our forces are frequently joined by outside associates who work on documenting (and on the digitalization) the materials that reveal the living culture of their communities. The web of the Centre’s associates is spreading from year to year, so we ask you to join us if you think that your interests or knowledge can contribute to the Centre’s archive and documentation activities.

How to become an associate of the Centre?

It’s simple enough. Write to the addresses in the Contacts column, introduce yourself and explain which elements of intangible culture you would like to learn more about and document with our help. Furthermore, don’t forget that the Centre needs any document for the aforementioned collections that you may already have or consider useful for further research, analysis and/or presentation. Those can be: video or audio records of conversations with holders of specific cultures; audio records or publications that contain the music of living tradition; photographs from old family albums; reportages, documentaries or unpublished manuscripts, journals, notes, stories…
If you want to participate in a new documenting process independently you can consult some web pages that can be used as guidelines for documenting:

Moreover, we’ll be very pleased if you turn to us with information that can be of importance to us so that we can record it and save it in the Centre. With your help the Centre will develop faster and with more quality enabling it to achieve informational and intellectual capital worthy of international exchange and cooperation. These procedures will open doors for new knowledge and materials, available in the Centre to any person or researcher interested in Istrian intangible culture. In the near future this material will be available as a database on the websites of the Ethnographical Museum of Istria and the Istrian Centre for Intangible Culture.
